1. The teachers who are no longer in the selected group of 2009 STARTALK teachers are not permitted to enter our teachingchinese web. Their sign-in accounts as well as their Moodle accounts will be subsequently removed.
2. Only one Moodle account is allowed for each teacher. Those who have more need to chose one to keep and need to provide their account information for evaluation.
3. We are short on the teacher roster, thus at the assignment, we will cooperation from each site manager to put more students in each class this year. To run big classes like this, we will need high quality teachers. Therefore we have to maintain the quality level of our trained teachers by insisting our demand.
4. On the attendance rule, all absences require advance approval by Leemei Chen. Teachers will be dropped from the training program if miss (without advance approval) more than ONE training course.

Dear 2009 STARTALK first round accepted teachers,
Congratulation! We are glade to accept you as a 2009 STARTALK first round selected teacher. This selection proves that you are a good and well-prepared teachers. I am confident that we will work together as a good team and before long you will be transformed into a professional foreign language teacher through our training and teach programs. We foresee a very busy Spring and Summer ahead of us, so please pay attention to the following announcements:
First, There will be two required training courses for everyone. you need to attend these two events 03/14 3pm~6pm and 03/15 9am~6pm at El Monte Cultural Center( 9443 Telstar Ave, El Monte, CA 91731 (626) 443-9999.
1) 03/14 3pm~6pm is a kick-off party day, we will introduce you to all site managers. Important messages and information, such as required TB test, background check, upcoming training schedule, our teaching goals, STARTALK teachers' requirements, your training benefit, your home and group assignments, etc., will be announced in this meeting, along with answer to any question you might raise. Please be there on time.
**In the first day you need to turn in a $300.00 check as training fee to be officially admitted in the training group, no exception. This $300 fee will be used for training cost and is non-refundable. After you successfully finish the required training and receive a final training grade B+ or above, you will be awarded a $300 training scholarship. If you retain a perfect attendance record on your teaching assignment this summer with an above average evaluation from your site manager, then you will earn a $200.00 teaching scholarship, in addition to your summer teaching pay. These two scholarships will be awarded within 30 days after you completed the final exam of the training and submitted summer school student grade reports. Please note that teaching placement is non-negotiable after the announcement. We will do everything we can to minimize any inconvenience resulting from driving distance, physical location, and any unforeseen problem.
2) 03/15 9am~6pm is the first training class by Prof. Cynthia Ning (任友梅教
授), U. of Hawaii, on Task-based activities for teaching Chinese Workshop
3) Schedules for the rest of the training courses will be announced in this
first meeting.

The OPI Assessment Workshop in San Diego will be held on 1/6/09 12:00~8:30Pm and 1/7/09 10:00am~6:00pm at Taiwanese culture Association.( 7170 convoy Court, San Diego, CA 92111)
We have many applicants from san Diego but only 20 selected.
Please be on time!
